Vulnerability draws the manipulator, but he baulks at the idea of being manipulated. This monstrosity, which appeared to lie belly up, is ready to speed away at a moment’s notice, with winking tail lamps laughing at the discomfiture of others.

And no, Laura is not at the wheel, but he wonders why the thought of her driving away in glory occurred to him.

Decades have flown down the river, as he changed several apartments- yet, the nightmare of being in bed with a targeted victim continues to haunt him, a reminder of his vulnerability.

He wakes up in cold sweat, terrified by the idea that all confidential documents from his desk were gone with her, a stark reminder of the potential loss he faces.

Even as the top detective in the country, his professional prowess does not shield him from his struggles, especially if he has yet to decipher who the enemy is and what the robbery’s intent is.

    No matter how good a person is at their job, when it comes to conflict between the professional and private self, emotions can lead us astray. Sounds as if the top detective is in this boat.
