The Perfect Date (Mahurat)

“I don’t believe in this mahurat nonsense,” Ajay hissed.

“It doesn’t harm us in any way. We are already living together. This event is meant to be a social declaration in India.”

They wanted to get married at their annual vacation home, but the priest said there were no auspicious dates during the month. Her parents thought that hitching for life when the planetary position is imperfect was too great a risk. It made sense to wait till their next India trip, and they agreed.

She could not gather the courage to tell them they had been living together, and the marriage was already registered in their country of residence. They needed the certificate to be eligible for certain benefits. And of course, Linda Goodman said they are a perfect couple as per their zodiac signs.

Five years later, she calls home,

“Dad, can the priest suggest the perfect date to get my divorce decree? A divorce is also the beginning of a new life.”

“He will suggest anything for a fee. But I’d like you to analyse your relationship mistakes and not repeat the same again.”

Her Dad was a changed man.
