Why More Indian Women Are Saying “Not Yet” to Marriage
take your time
to walk out
-stereotypical traps
are no good
since you’ll break them anyway
and hurt others
along with yourself
take your time
to know the difference
between
a frog and a prince
you may not be a princess
but you are not compelled
to fall in line
any more or less
than incarcerated royalty
find colours and robes
you find comforting
before you project
an identity
take a walk
solo
or run
to know your strength
look around your castle
to check
if there is space
for someone
incompatible
appeasement
is not a virtue
surrender
is not a lifestyle
you cannot embrace anyone
unless you are
unbroken
with a vision

really good, Reena 💝😁

My sincere apologies Reena for writing your name incorrectly. Too fast on the keyboard and the brain not in gear at the same speed. So sorry.

Beautiful, and women should hold the same weight in any relationship.

So true! I am so glad that the present generation of women here are not giving into societal pressure to get married. Being in an incompatible marriage is no fun. A wonderful write, Reena.

Thank you, Punam! I guess studying/working abroad has contributed to the change. They refused to blend into expectations, and that is a positive change.
