1.
I shred the calendar, yet save a few dates,
Moments of joy that time celebrates.
The days may pass, like whispers in the breeze,
But memories linger, with a gentle ease.
In the chaos of life, I find my peace,
In cherished moments, where worries cease.
The future’s a mystery, the past a tale,
But love and laughter, they never pale.
I shred the calendar, yet hold on tight,
To the days that sparkle, in the darkest night.
For in those dates, my heart finds its way,
Guiding me through, come what may.
2.
It is the same old me in different clothes,
But my vision is new, as the morning glows.
The world, once familiar, now a canvas wide,
With colours and dreams that I cannot hide.
The paths I tread, though worn and known,
Now shimmer with light, where shadows had grown.
Each step I take, a dance with the dawn,
In this new day, my spirit is reborn.
The same old me, yet a heart renewed,
With hopes and desires in vibrant hues.
For though the clothes may change and fade,
My vision is new, and my soul unafraid.

so much we could really do, if we only could rid ourselves from the burdensome days of past and only keep the sparkle.

I love your words and the way the poem rhymes effortlessly. And a metaphor of changing clothes more on the inside than out?

Love the shift in perspective, the shredding of a calendar … I have saved our calendars for the last nine years and review them from time to time, a diary of sorts. Color me nutty? Great palinode, Reena! Happy New Year.

Wishing you the same, Helen! I can picture your calendars maybe with photos and notes stuck on certain dates 😊

the repeat lines of v1 and those in verse 2 really strike the contrast/debate between them

I love the opening lines, Reena; shredding the calendar yet saving a few dates is something I do, and I love the way you repeat it, like an echo, in the lines:
‘I shred the calendar, yet hold on tight,
To the days that sparkle, in the darkest night’.
The optimism in the second part of your palinode sparkles brightly, shimmering ‘with light, where shadows had grown’.
