Personification

Personification is distinct from personal recognition. One is a mere image, the other a true understanding.

When you personify, you translate my essence into an image that you have of me and eulogise or worship me. You have placed aquatic creatures that do not belong here, and I can sense their discomfort.

You drew stars around my scars, turning my pain into a celestial map to establish yourself as an artist or find an image that becomes a conversation starter or a creativity prompt.

The natural lines on my bark hold stories of many decades, only if someone cares to know. Those botanists may seem tedious, but I like the ones who don’t paint stories on me. Poets may highlight different aspects of the same reality, but they don’t care to hear mine. Yet, the value of authentic storytelling remains untainted by personal interpretation.

  1. I really love this! The photo is so intriguing; I want to know more about this tree. And I love that you’ve written from the tree’s perspective, calling out how people do more harm than good in their worship.

” You have placed aquatic creatures that do not belong here, and I can sense their discomfort.” really shows how the tree has more compassion than the people who claim to idolize it.
