The shell of a human being passes by with unseeing eyes focused on the sunset and a device in his shaky hand.

He shudders to recall the scene that had wrecked the core of his being many sunsets ago.

She had jumped into the valley, and he was left holding a mask in his hand – the mask he believed to be her authentic self.

He waited for her to re-emerge and tell him the story about her multiple identities.

In the process, he had penned down several stories enumerating the possibilities.

She was the inspiration behind his award-winning literary work.

  5. Fritz Perls (pioneer of existential psychology back in the day) had an approach to dream analysis that simply had the client role play each element in a given dream.

    (paraphrasing here a little, seeing how grad school was 2.3 lifetimes ago at this point lol) but his reasoning was: it’s my dream so I am represented (to one extent or another) by everything in it

    I like that and, unsurprisingly, suspect, speaking only for myself, much of my fiction is like that. not literally, of course, but certainly in the emotional dimension.

    1. We imagine how a character would behave in a certain situation, based on experience and perspectives.

      Watching a real life character can be either enlightening or disturbing. For example, I find it difficult to build a criminal’s character. The description may never be perfect.
