Late at night, a question raises its head
alone in the room, I sit up and scream
Is it real, or was it a bad dream?
Am I sane? Have I gone totally mad?
I ask the dark sky and the empty bed
Where have all my friends and companions gone
An owl peeks, a dog howls, lonely night groans
late at night, a question raises its head
salvation lies there, just around the bend
they are waiting for me, all dead and gone
expanded awareness in moonlight shone
Am I sane? Have I gone totally mad?
late at night, a question raises its head
existence to blend in another realm
Am I sane? Have I gone totally mad?

The middle of a dark night is where existential thoughts lie in wait. Best not to dwell there for long…

Reena, I can relate to this. You must be half my age, how come you come up with thes thoughts. Very well expressed.

I’m more than half your age 🙂 I’ve seen my mother in a similar state of mind in the end. She died at the age of 82, and my father had departed 32 years before that.

Night can be truly scary when we are in the company with our thoughts

It depends on what those thoughts are.

The middle-of-the-night panic attack is so real here, as well as wishing everything real had been a nightmare from which we can awaken. Masterful!

I’m glad so many people could relate to this. For me, it stemmed from my mother’s last few years.

The questions at night can drive a person mad with fear & doubts. There is always an expanded awareness of the sounds and thoughts at night. Good one!

I’ve seen my mother go through this phase. She lived for 32 years after my Dad passed away.
