I met your mother yesterday at the mall. She was looking at ornate jewellery for her prospective daughter-in-law.
I watched the gleam in her eyes with awe, which induced a strange, sad feeling.
I am haunted by how much our mothers do not know. We can blame them for not building a congenial atmosphere for sharing or blame ourselves for concealing facts that might hurt them.
I hear my mother listening to neighbourhood gossip, knitting needles in her busy hands and a quiet smile lighting up her face. I know what she thinks. She is blessed to have a daughter like me.
I haven’t told her about the scholarship that will take me abroad and that I have no intention of marrying the man she chose for me.
She lives in a dream, just like your mother, who doesn’t know her son is gay.

And I wonder what they will say when they finally know…

They will act shattered and blame the children for being inconsiderate 😂

We should listen to our children, and understand they have dreams too.

True that. Acceptance matters a lot more than other expressions of love.

Hahahaha! Hitting back with words there…a cautionary tale for all who plan the lives of the younger generations…

The older generation over-assumes its power at times, and then complains on falling with a thud.

Denial is a powerful force that I have been blessed to live in and around. I like to think that I will continue to see my children’s lives from an objective standpoint, rather than one subjective to my desired reality.
