He held the “Best Performer of the Year” award, looking forlorn. Twitterverse responded with question marks when the picture was shared.
His boss expressed displeasure at the kind of commotion created. The company expected returns from positive storytelling.
He poured himself a drink as his wife set the table for dinner.
“Let’s skip the grilled chicken. Who enjoys being skewered on a grill to receive rave reviews?”
“Then all we have are mashed potatoes.”
He pictured his boss mashing him up instead of grilling.
“Is there any appreciation for a good meal?” His wife quipped.
“Ask the chicken and potatoes.”

Great take on the prompt, witty analogies and dialogue.

Work is unfortunately one of the most important things in our lives and there’s little worse than an unappreciative boss. I suppose being the chicken on that skewer would be worse…

I agree. To be showcased as an achiever, you need to be on the right side of the boss, whatever it means.
People can only grow in the allocated roles, and those decisions again rest with the boss.

So true! And unfortunately I know exactly what it means because I left a job because of a situation like this. But life does go on and more often than not for the better.

We all need to be appreciated. And on our own terms. I feel for your character, feeling forlorn and unappreciated.

Failing to receive appreciate generates unusual strength to go it alone. Though I won’t wish it upon any one else.

Exactly! Something has to die to sustain our lives, be it meat or vegetable.
