“Ramji refused to pay for his brother’s funeral, and I had to step in,” reminisces the nonagenarian, which puts others in a tight spot. Ramji’s son is sitting at the bedside.

“Of course, I remember you – you are from a different religion, often smoked in my bathroom and I’d chided Ravi on marrying you.” His best friend’s wife is accommodating of his derogatory manner and smiles.

His recollections of the past are often an embarrassment to the family.

But at this point in his life – there is no future, and the present is nothing but a summary of the past.
