Befriending the Sky

I saw you shedding tears
but they said unseasonal showers
are blessings from the sky
and a good time for a soul to depart

I wonder what the forward journey is like
navigating explosive gaps between the clouds
bursting with sins she committed
because she saw herself as
invincible
unbeatable
and now suddenly
finds herself confronted
by Karma

Sky, your omnipresence gives you
limitless powers
pray let me know
if you saw a twinge of regret
in the soul’s soundless but heavy footsteps
or uncertainty about gates opening for her
all that she took so much for granted
during her earthly sojourn

if your tears carry unread messages
for those who write their stories
on your expanse
and watch it shrink
to fit their consciousness

It may be my turn next
I hope to get the message right
I hope I travel
with a light footstep
shedding rants and rancour
just enough
to skip those blinking souls

embrace the night or light
wholeheartedly
with the Greatness reunite
-never to look back
-never to live or regret

  1. This is gorgeously rendered, Reena! I especially like this part; “I wonder what the forward journey is like navigating explosive gaps between the clouds.” Thank you so much for writing to the prompt 🩷🩷
