the sultriness of exam halls
the whirring fan on top
clocks ticking away
till I submitted a summary
of memory
of all that I chose
to remember or forget
-anxiety dreams added sweat
on seeing questions for which
I was unprepared
But now
dreams tell different stories
of empty larders when guests arrive
a missed flight
a blinking light
a bank statement
I’d rather not open
till the next check arrives
I write about cherry blossoms
grass growing under my feet
a bud blooming somewhere
as the scorching sun blinds
and I pull out my shades
to let the colours fade
till I’m back in airconditioned environs
somehow
dreams take away the shades
and the fan blades
leave me perspiring
in yet another
colour-blind April
of my dreams

I feel the weight of April on your shoulders!

Ah, I can sense the dread and that feeling of being trapped in a loop. Brilliantly written ma’am!

A sort of dread of what is coming. For many, this month of new growth is not as joyous as others may believe.

It is summer here, not spring.

Brilliant theme, and yes we all dread opening those sort of letters.

Good to know we all act in similar ways, unknowingly across the oceans 🙂
