Poetry- an enigma -Write, scribble
co-create with prompts, scrub the subconscious
then let it create and make you powerless
a visible medium, but clueless
about emergence of words
lashing out
on keyboards
write in free verse
choose a syllable form to accept slavery
stay bound to the tyranny of form and structure
count syllables though how you say a word
differs in geographies and accents
let your spirit be a castle
words in tenements
How can I teach
a skill, which comes from within?
How can I sell interpretations
In absence of logic or citations?
It’s only me – why should you
read or resonate
align or elucidate?
publishers politely refuse
verse and insist on prose
it falls flat on cash registers
is seen as a fancy or whim
of an obsessed mind
be it her or him

I do love this Reena! Your an incredible poet! ❤

This is so true Reena. The forms of poetry are enslaving and tyrannical. Well written

I enjoyed how you pointed out all the restrictions that poetry enforces on language that are not present in free verse. Nice poem, Reena.

While the entire poem is a work of art, its this line that encapsulates a poet ❤️ Brilliant ma’am!
