“When you don’t feel up to the task, check the premises you are coming from because there’s a contradiction somewhere between belief and action,” her mentor’s words ring loud in her ears.
“Beliefs do change”, she tries to convince herself.
“People believe because they’ve got to believe in something, and what they choose is something that comes closest to their line of thought.
I-s th-is yo-ur thou-ght pro-cess, Alicia?”
Alicia wakes up sweating profusely, but the nightmare still dominates.
Dawn is still a few hours away, and she finds it difficult to wait till 9.00 am to submit her resignation.

Trying to decide whether it’s best to stick through a plan of action or to choose a different path is a tough one. Well written story, Reena!

“…a contradiction somewhere between belief and action.
Hey! Great observation!
And, like the rings (of trees), the farther back in life a belief is acquired* the more difficult to appreciate its requirements (that we are to obey).
Always fun (and challenging) Six, R.
*or, worse, imposed

It sounds like she shouldn’t submit her resignation. Good point in the first sentence about belief and action.

An acquaintance of ours would break into hives at exactly 8 am. Medical tests revealed no problem. Then one doctor asked him, “is everything okay at your workplace? Accept whatever is happening and find solutions.”

That’s very good advice. Worrying yourself to a hospital bed or worse, is never a good thing. 🙏
