soldiers’ boots
tear silence of tombs
a child cries
bids goodbye
to season of fear; can’t hear
winter’s neighbor sigh
Kigo – Winter’s Neighbour

Kigo – Winter’s Neighbour
This is very powerful, Reena.

We were a military family. Both my husband and I served in the U.S. Air Force. I totally get this poem, Reena. 🧡

This does not portray soldiers in a positive way. But glad you liked it 💕

It is so sad when children have to fear the sound of soldier’s boots. This a very emotive poem that should haunt us all.

Thank you, Marsha!
I remember the picture of a 4-year old in Afghanistan raising her hands on seeing a journalists camera. She took it to be a gun.

The sound of soldier’s boots echoing in the tombs is truly haunting. Seems that the cries of the children aren’t enough to stop them 😦

I came across some gruesome stories of victims. Helplessness is the only feeling that remains in me, not empathy or anger.

I know that there are a lot of people putting the heat on US leaders to stop subsidizing the killing. I hear you on the helplessness, but my empathy for those who feel they must carry on the past instead is low and for those who choose acting for the best outcome for their children is high. I’m too worn out for anger these days.
