The dark grey cloud with a pink heart
in a butterfly shape
floating above my head whispers
Will you recognize me when we meet next?
I’d like to meet you again,
or I may not
but how do I differentiate
shades and shapes of misfortune
hovering on my head
threating to burst
swallow my life
the place I call home
and in some cases
consciousness
of those I care for
your pink heart reflects
borrowed light
How do I trust your friendship
and your shape-shifting ways
You’ll go with the wind
when my feet lose ground
get caught in strong currents
I may not trust you
but remember this fleeting moment
and your extended hand
as fleeting glory of life
to be relished and stored
somewhere in the folds of the soul
whenever earthquakes shatter my world
or raging storms blow me away
I’ll feel it again in my bones
Like I do today
There’s a cloud I can hold on to
and learn its ways
to fly across the sky
before losing form
to become downpour

This is such an amazing write. Love the symbolism of the cloud.

This is exquisitely woven, Reena! I especially admire this part; “your pink heart reflects borrowed light/ how do I trust your friendship and your shape-shifting ways/you’ll go with the wind when my feet lose ground.” Thank you so much for writing to the prompt! 💖💖💖

Such a beautiful poem, capturing vulnerability and irrepressible hope. There are so many good lines here, but the last stanza is my favorite, and these revealing lines:
“How do I trust your friendship
and your shape-shifting ways
You’ll go with the wind
when my feet lose ground
get caught in strong currents”
Wonderful use of imagery!
