I wake up with a feeling of unease
not sure what my dreams are telling me
dreams tell, but do not explain -appearance
of shadows from the known and unknown
shadows of whatever touched me, or walked past
past – indelible, imperceptible marks
wounds that don’t hurt, but flare up in the dark
write scenarios not happened, but do haunt
scenarios which my subconscious paints
stories as a backdrop for what is to come
irrelevant stories – I’d like to discard
if I know what demons grow big in the dark
demons to be stopped, before they become disease
I wake up with a feeling of unease

A very eery feel to this–perfectly captures waking from a bad dream.

This is deliciously dark and haunting, Reena. I especially resonate with; “shadows of whatever touched me, or walked past/past – indelible, imperceptible marks/wounds that don’t hurt, but flare up in the dark.” Yes 💛💛💛

Evocative and nightmarish in intensity. Great use of the form to show cyclical quality of dreams and fears.

Ooooh, Reena…last night I had a half-asleep dream of shadow walking past and awoke heart pounding! What do dreams tell us, indeed!

I find those half-asleep dreams scary… it is going through something with no control over what’s happening.

I think you capture not just the form, but all the feelings we can all have around dreams at times – unease, are they portents etc. great poem…

A haunting dream duplex, Reena, and I identify with waking up with a feeling of unease ‘not sure what my dreams are telling me’ and those ‘wounds that don’t hurt, but flare up in the dark’.
