Giving

“Life is about giving, irrespective of your own needs”. My revered grandmother kept repeating this.

I follow her advice in taking care of the drug addicts, unemployed and other needy members in the family. Nevertheless, they continue to be a nuisance with their behavior.

Nor did I realize that my need for approval drives me to attempt this impossible feat.

Then comes the day when mortgage lenders threaten to repossess the house. Not a single person offers to help.

I can lend you a certain amount in June, says the note from my grandmother.

Lying in the hospital bed, I think

“For how can I be sure, I shall see again the world?”

On the first of May, I have to settle hospital bills. Neither do I have insurance nor cash.

Life is about giving, but not if it turns you into a beggar.
