I like ladders, but there’s a snake in some squares
I’ve sticks and stones to beat it with
build a house with blocks to keep me safe
My house has ladders to take me to the sky
I’ve sticks and stones to beat it with
Serpents can’t pull me down in dark holes
My house has ladders to take me to the sky
Believe me or not, some day I will fly
Serpents can’t pull me down in dark holes I like ladders, but there’s a snake in some squares Believe me or not, some day I will fly My house has ladders to take me to the sky

Nice in content and style.

Great take on the prompt, Reena. Thanks for reminding me of a game I used to enjoy playing back in the day 🙂

Thank you so much! We did not realise back then that the game represents life.

A lovely poem about the game we all have played and sometimes still do. I like how you set out the verse to form a ladder/staircase.

As long as there are more ladders than snakes, you’ll get theere in the end. Very poetic.

This has a nice rhythm and almost communal ‘chant.’ V nice!

Thank you, Ain! But why communal?

I enjoyed the oral poetry tradition among bedouin people in Saudi Arabia, which is often communal. Similar crossed my mind when reading yours. Somehow jt feels more powerful like that.

Interesting construction, not a villanelle or a pantoum I think. What is it?

It is a Pantoum. Thank you, Sandra!

I loved the idea of the snakes and ladders board. The game is an early metaphor of life for children.
