Stardust

legends are made of stardust
which slipped my fingers
into ether
high, high … up there
till it did not belong to me

it drills a hole to remind
what I could have been
it generates
resentment, envy
I wrap it up in admiration,
applause - without
putting hands together

so that the dust I still hold
remains in my soul
till I learn
how to market myself
without selling the ‘self’

  1. This piece reminded me of biographies I have read of authors, who, in later life, regretted the amount of sex they included in their novels, on the advice of the publisher, to sell more books.
‘How to market the self without selling the self’.
