It was a sight she hated – the parked bicycle outside the house.
Her stepmother often threatened to marry her off to this humble visitor – her maths tutor who also happened to be a carpenter’s son. It did not matter that Jack was a nice, intelligent guy who empathized with her plight. He was the only person who supported her in absence of her father.
The prince of one’s dreams had to arrive on horseback or a fancy car, not this ramshackle piece of machinery. No, Jack did not qualify to be the chosen guy.
On a not-so-fine day, she set fire to the parked bicycle in a maniacal state, after a verbal altercation with her stepmom. It was supposed to be the end of mental torture.
But Jack continued to visit them with the same affectionate smile. He showed no trace of bitterness or angst on the unfortunate incident.
She stepped out today to see a shiny new car.
“Jack, how could you afford this?”
“I can’t. Not yet, at least. Your father gifted this to me.”

that’s some fairytale ending, made the entire piece magical. nicely done
