my lonely, scalded soul groans so often
on being unfairly chosen for the cross
my tears are nothing, but lava molten
just why should divine justice be so gross
I drag through the day, and then sleep morose
one morning… my inner eye awakens
I see no reason to be so shaken
it's all about how I choose to be
the favorite follower, or forsaken
Free life awaits – I choose not to flee

Either way one fulfils an obligation, a divine choice entrusted! One is not expected to betray but to accept. Well spoken Reena!

We all make crosses for ourselves from time to time. Sometimes not easy to put down.

You’ve used the 8-line/8-syllable version well; no fault ti be found in it. BUT – so sorry, i did ask for the 10-line version in this prompt (only mentioned the other by way of information). So this piece isn’t in the running for the proposed anthology. However, you are allowed more than one try and I’m sure would have no difficulty writing a 10-line, 10-syllable piece. It could be a completely new poem, or a rewrite of this one, as you prefer.

Oops! Apologies for the typos. (I should have my morning coffee BEFORE typing, lol.)

A 10-line version has been posted. I’m deleting this one.

Or you could leave it up for comparison, or as a matter of interest. There’s nothing wrong with it as what it is – just that it’s not what was asked for.

I like the way you take a stand, eyes open to whatever comes. This is a poem of hard-earned courage to me. Very succinctly conveyed, Reena.

It somethings does seem to be about the choices we don’t even know we’ve made.

Yes. We realize quite late that we asked for it, when we acted in a certain way.
