At last…

Her partner’s body lay in the coffin, she was dressed in black, but felt no emotion. She went through all the rituals wordlessly, except where the priest asked her to repeat a few words.

A lifetime of being put down and constant mental abuse floated through her mind. She had prayed every single day for the end of any one life – either hers or his.

Alone in her bedroom at last, she burst into years after decades of being stoic….. it was the emotional release she needed, but had never known what it would feel like. She was free at last, but could not celebrate.

  1. I have spent the last few days working with WordPress and Akismet techies to figure out why my comments on your post and several other WordPress blogs decided to vanish into thin air. It was so frustrating! But I believe we have it fixed now and I wanted to stop back by to tell you how much I liked this story, I think it rings true. Sometimes we can set ourselves physically free from a bad situation, but to set ourselves mentally and spiritually from the shadows it has cast will take much longer, maybe a lifetime. You conveyed that feeling well.

Also, thank you for reposting the story I wrote! 🙂

  2. Hopefully, through her tears over what had been and what could have been/should have been, she will eventually begin to see clearly a path that will lead to forgiveness, healing and true happiness.

  3. the theme not only of release (from prison, from the past, from an unhappy marriage) is providing interesting overtones (throughout the various Sixes) of how the prison and the prisoner are, perhaps more intimately (and permanently) bound than may seem at first glance.
