“I’ve never seen a boat in these waters, not even a fishing trawler.”
“Why should you be looking for it?”
“I wonder what kind of world exists on the other side….” Nyomo’s tone was wistful.
“That is exactly what they don’t want you to see. Or you will not want to work for two meals and a pathetic shelter. Will you?”
“That is the world I want to see…. a world without THEM, and a world without spies like you.”
SPLASHHHH ….. somebody had been pushed into the water, and there was no boat around for rescue.
Nyomo could swim.

I hope Nyomo finds what he is looking for on the other side and it’s as good as he dreams it to be. Nicely written story, Reena.

He seems to be a determined sort and not intimidated by them. I hope it works out for him and he’s strong enough to fight.

He seems to be a determined kind of guy. He’ll make it, and maybe get to see “the other side.”

Lets hope he makes it, all to a familiar story now in Europe with migrants being forced to take put their life in other ruthless folks hands and escape the slavery or tyranny they face. Loved this little tale.

There’s always a THEM to spoil things. The ones in this story sound worst than most. I’m glad Nyomo could swim to the other side. I hope it’s not too far.

Nyomo has become a bonded labor. Only food and shelter, no money it seems.

You convey Nyomo’s urge to escape slavery very neatly. I hope he’s welcomed on the other side, and not just repatriated.

You are so right 🙂 Repatriation is a big risk everywhere.

“They” don’t sound very benevolent. I think he’ll be better off looking for the other side. Intriguing tale that could go further.
