  1. Macular Degeneration

    Macular Degeneration

Puddles of black reach across my sight
First the left eye, then the right
After the struggles and the fight
    Each day becomes eternal night
When seeing matters less and less
And blindness is no longer bleakness
No more contrast, no more starkness
As we grow accustomed to darkness

    1. flowers regret their inaccessibility
envy my pretty garden of thorns

my protagonist — too busy to read
      overpowered by eager readers

She did not turn back — and missed
the sight of someone who loved

      Will realization strike
      for love to win?

      A disappointed dawn will mourn
      my addiction to darkness
