He was a new entrant to the police force, enthusiastic about cleaning up the township of crime, and restoring law and order.
“I’m surprised to see life sprouting in the underbelly of civilization. Condemn them, shoo them away, bury them out of sight, and yet they spring back. Some resilience…..”
“The underbelly is not a world by itself, but a reaction to the outside world. Living in denial of the phenomenon will not negate their existence.”
‘Where do I start from?”
“Find all those who benefit by crime, and you may find them in the heart and center of civilization.”

Very well put together. Very impressed. Great write!

He’ll soon realise corruption in the force and probably make it his own. Good stuff

A shame to think that youthful enthusiasm will inevitably be overtaken by cynicism. Good take, Reena.

Such true words, although he maybe sucked into the same corruption.

I think beyond doubt you will find them in the heart of civilisation, unfortunately

Yes, in most of the places. They are placed there either by circumstances, birth or design of a manipulator using them as tools.

Very realistic. Like many of the others, I wonder how long it is before his enthusiasm is eroded.

Whatever we call ‘the system’ does not allow honesty to flourish.

A mixture of “the poor you will always have with you,” and “cui bono?” the mystery writer’s mantra. Youthful enthusiasm meets hardened cynicism. I see these characters solving crimes together!

The system will not let him be so enthusiastic for long as happens to the all the new enthusiastic entrants, in every field. Beautifully written Reena. The last line is the reality.
