Kelpies

changing shapes in water

changing colors at night

we let people inside us

to discover their might

hollowed legends

reconstructed for pleasure

we look up to see heaven

down to earth, at leisure

we cannot help being evil

reversed hooves – do our speed belie

each time – a human turns Loch Ness

somewhere, you hear a Kelpie cry

myths are more real than life

conquer human imagination

through a myth we actualize

deepest hopes, fears of a nation

if you meet a gremlin

with seaweeds in the hair

ask about its changing shape

be surprised by a deep desire
