silence hanging heavy
mutual exchange of
conspiratorial glances
unusual politeness
on my face
while mails and messages
go unanswered
I know
I’ll wake up tomorrow
with a knife in my back
as a rank newcomer
takes charge of my office
misplaced loyalty
injured pride
oozing wounds
indelible marks
etched by
tyranny of a psychopath

A little power can be a scary thing, easy to trade humanity for tyranny, also possible the foreboding is paranoid, I have done that before, but either way you have described the feeling precisely.

I hope the writing was cathartic. Rejection is hard to bear. Patience for bright days.

Btw, the writer and character are not always one. We often commit this error while reading.

I remember this feeling very well. New administrators can be heaven or hell depending…

Being a drone for the state, the system creates these monsters on a scale unheard of by Frankenstein. I have had many like this. Scary.

Thank you, Carrie! People live through it, and then are told that they are not the only ones. It is happening to so many people out there.

Yikes, that sounds a dangerous place to work. I once had two bosses like that, one after the other. It did me in. Flee!
