“I like the mirror, but am not too sure of the angle of its placement. Is it meant to reflect the vehicles driving in, or to multiply happiness by reflecting the sky?”
I’m a freshly minted feng-shui consultant, and like to distribute knowledge free of cost, to all those who care to listen.
Aunt Maria looks glum,
“Do you see that closed door in the mirror?”
“Yes. It’s not a very positive sign…”
She cuts me short,
“My happiness is locked behind that, and I spend my days waiting for that door to open.”
Is it a metaphor, or more?
(100 words)

Ah feng shui! I am pretty sure I am doing it all wrong… nice tale 🙂

Reena, there’s so much compacted into this and the comments have really teazed it open as well. So many people are like that over-crowded shed with everything shoved away and a closed door up front preventing anyone from getting in. It’s a real shame because it restricts the capacity for connection. Many of us also have a shed packed full of dreams too. Not sure how we’d react if the doors suddenly flew open on that front either. Would we be truly ready for all that entailed?
Meanwhile, I’ve just started taking part in another blog share: Thursday Doors and with all the talk of doors in your post, I thought you’d enjoy it: https://miscellaneousmusingsofamiddleagedmind.wordpress.com/category/thursday-doors/
Best wishes,
Rowena

Your comment qualifies to be a post. I like the idea of dreams spilling out – maybe they take a life of their own. The difference between virtual and real is getting blurred anyway.

I don’t much about feng-shui but it sounds very interesting. I must read a bit more about it sometime soon. A great write. Very intriguing.

Feng shui is about placement of objects in a space like home or office, to maximize flow of positive energy. Thank you, Lisa!

I think that feng-shui makes a lot of sense to those who care about their surroundings and I also think Aunt Maria should release her happiness because it’s too precious to be locked away. Lovely take.

At the least, feng shui declutters and beautifies space, which has a positive impact on mindsets. Thank you so much, Jilly!

Very interesting perspective. Reminds me of some old song lyrics about how much more do we know than the rose beyond the wall or something like that. An allegory… like Plato’s cave… Love it! And, I really did enjoy the inspiration you have sparked…will have to see where it leads.

I wonder if the consultant is reading too much into the placement of the mirror. Intriguing.

Yes. Placement of mirrors and what they reflect is a part of feng shui. Thanks!

Yes, I always make sure a mirror is not facing a window or door…don’t know if it helps or just makes me feel better. 🙂

Interesting take with the feng-shui. But i think her friend took the over-eager consultant to the next level. Not only what does the mirror mean, but what does it hold? I got the impression that what hid behind the door in the mirror might only exist there, in the same way rhat Alice’s wonderland exists only on the other side of the looking glass. Interesting and provocative.

That is a good addition. The door has no physical existence. Thanks so much!😀

well I wish I had the time to (sniff) but the whole closed door is a starting point – but then the “multiply happiness” – ahhhh – blessed is he who finds ways to do that –

Reena,
You have posed an intrigue. Aunt Maria’s happiness is hidden behind the door, is it locked? Or is she somehow waiting and expecting to catch it unawares when it emerges into her life. Or, another big or, is there some person or event from her past she would prefer to forget.
I think from this story anyone could go on and on about the possibilities and invent their own ideas and reason from this. I found this an enjoyable contribution.

That’s a fast paced thriller, Reena. Who or what is behind the door?
I loved the line “I’m a freshly minted feng-shui consultant, and like to distribute knowledge free of cost, to all those who care to listen.” – so true to life!

It is a trend that swept all households in the ninetees and receded. The benefits were not so obvious. I had painted green leaves on my bathroom tiles, because that corner was supposed to have green.
