It was quite late in life, when I appreciated my mother’s fine craftsmanship skills, and the beauty of her stoic attitude. She was a single parent bringing up three kids on scarce resources.
The boots which she had created from an old pair of jeans did not thrill us at that stage in life, but kept us warm in winters.
The house has been put on sale after her demise. With a heavy heart and moist eyes, I pick up this remnant of childhood from the sidewalk where it has been thrown. My wife will not know what it means.
(100 words)

Oh, the poignancy of small things when we’re parted from someone we love. But that love will last forever. She was a wonderful, unselfish mother.

I fear that the skills of her mother generation are fading. Interesting use of the prompt photo.

Thank you, Mike! Manufacturers now, make things in a way that they are trashed in a short time, and are not fit for reuse or repair.

Beautifully written and heartfelt, Reena.
There’s so much talk about throwing out your excess clutter and stuff you don’t use and yet there can be so many memories caught up in it too. Perhaps, I am at one extreme but too many people are throwing it all out these days and not keeping these trophies of past hardships and successes and what makes us who we are.
Best wishes,
Rowena
