A chilly night

There was a deathly chill in the air. The leaves peeped like frightened lambs from under the snow. The moon looked a pale yellow, as the street lights cast reddish shadows around.

Inspector Sharman stopped in his tracks. The shape of the mound of the snow suggested the presence of something suspicious beneath it.

“Officers, shovel the snow out. There is a clue here.”

“Somebody called from inside that house.”

“It does not matter. Check this first.”

A few strokes revealed  frozen pink lines in the snow. Streaks of blood…..

His instincts had never failed him in all these years.

  1. I also felt that blanket of snow had its secrets. I’ve never experienced snow in a residential setting. No surprise that we don’t get much snow in Australia outside the snowfields. I was going to have a murder but my version took a different twist.
BTW, I really loved this line: “The leaves peeped like frightened lambs from under the snow.”
