I watched my child grow bolder, as he tackled small challenges in life. He could walk a few steps without support, and then hold a glass in his tiny, but steady fingers.
I see him pushing the boulder up the hill, and my heart goes out to him. But he has grown up now, and trying to salvage a relationship going downhill. He flew out of the nest, five years ago, and life has never been the same again.
I saw his ambitions move through the flue, into the blue, expansive sky outside. I had outlived my utility.

to claim their pie in the sky
just watch with pride

Parents would have to accept the eventuality one day! At least sadness is balanced with happiness!
