I do not know why I trusted you. I had been through hope and despair in life, and was not exactly a novice.
Maybe, there was no alternative but to trust. You appeared to be the oasis in an arid desert, and the key to survival.
But change is the only constant in life. Your carefully constructed veil had dropped. I saw, but I did not conquer. I just walked away, and never turned back.
The mask of spring drops
seasons overpower hope
so predictable

We trust … and encounter disappointment at times. People usually give their best. It’s just that some have little of that to give!

I like that perspective. That is the best that they could have been. Thanks!

It would be lovely if the people we give our trust to actually deserves it. Very nice haibun, Reena.

Your haiku is a perfect complement to your prose……the mask drops away. May we all find people to share our lives with, our moments with, who are comfortable in their own skin.

We do. But life is a series of interactions with all kinds of people.

Your haiku perfectly sums up the prose. So sad when the mask drops away but glad it dropped before you became ensnared.

It was in fact a delayed response. One needs to see through masks earlier in the battle.

I liked the idea of seeing and not attempting to conquer.

It’s distressing when the mask falls but truth is also liberating. Love the haiku.

Too often – this having to walk away. The haiku is a perfect metaphor for the scene in the prose.
