Brats

I see a failed parent in a spoilt brat. The brats have only failed to overcome their shortcomings, but the parents have failed to execute a responsibility, they took up with so much of aplomb.

I have come across twenty-somethings who dump their plates in the kitchen, without clearing the remnants/discards, and teenagers who have not been taught to make their beds. The sense of entitlement is another demon to be grappled with, not to speak of inefficiency and rudeness.

I have spoken to the parents, who very fondly said.

“Oooohhhh! We have brought up our darling with so much care”.

“The servants are supposed to do these menial jobs, not our little prince/princess”.

The prince/ess might land into a boarding school or college hostel, where they are rejected by peers.

It is the Ooohhhhing and Aaahhhhing over inappropriate behavior, that lets loose these monstrosities on the world. They will owe a part of their probable failure in the world, to their loving parents. They might succeed and become the most powerful President in the world, and yet, what will they be remembered for? Will they be good human beings?

We need more parenting counsellors and trainers, than child counsellors.

  1. I once listened to a school administrator say: “whenever I have to deal with a 12 or 13 year-old problem child, I think that an adult has failed to do their job.”

It’s so true. Everyone should pay attention to the child they are raising and the adult that child is becoming.

    Great post! Thank you.
