I stormed the bastions
of my inner self
to weed out
dependence, insecurity
resentment and envy.
Anger refused to go
it protects my interest
against attackers
taking me for granted.
It helps me against
stubbornness and evil
of those
who refuse to see reason.

Although I think anger should go as well, I can see why one would want to keep it around for a while.

This is tricky. Anger is useful as a driving force for action , or an act of self-defence. Self-defence reduces vulnerability. But anger makes you vulnerable to so many other forms of retaliation or reactions.

We need those storms every now and then.

I really appreciate how you kept anger–sometimes, if channeled appropriately, it fuels our passions and inspires us to make good changes in ourselves and in the world around us.

Anger is powerful. Certain other emotions can just drag you down.

I like the choosing in this…what to get ride of, and what to keep. Wonderful.
