The patriarch’s death is covered by media as a social setback. He was a renowned philanthropist, who spent a lifetime in serving the less privileged. Backstage His signature is forged on nomination forms. Jewellery and valuables from his cupboard go missing. His kith and kin refuse to perform all the rituals related to death, for … Continue reading Regulars

This week’s Reena’s Exploration Challenge is all about describing the interactions between (your) thinking brain and feeling brain as if they’re characters, perspectives or mindsets. In the theory of dissociative identity disorder, alters are divided into two categories: apparently normal parts (ANPs) and emotional parts (EPs). Some theorists refer to them as Daily Living and Trauma Fixated parts instead. Additionally, I have experience with dialectical behavior therapy, which has the concepts of rational and emotional mind and Wise Mind as the goal to integrate the two.
I don’t believe in the rigid ANP/EP divide and the alters I’m going to describe in the piece below, would most likely both be seen as EPs, even though they’re on opposite ends of a spectrum. You see, one of the main triggers for identity confusion for me is the inability to integrate my low functioning level with regards to my social and emotional…

“I understand what you are going through.” “Really? Do you? You know nothing about the life I’ve led.” “True. I don’t. But I’ve lost a husband too. I pray that your husband is found alive on the accident site or in nearby hospitals, and life restarts for you.” “A restart is certain, but it may … Continue reading Evolved
The notepad is carefully designed to offset greyness of the decor. Nisha needed a push to draw the window curtains open. Deepa’s thoughts wandered back to her college days, when a Maths professor, R.K. Talreja, not very competent in English would keep saying, “Open the windows. Let the atmosphere come in.” He was always the … Continue reading Freshness

“Can you stand straight, look into my eyes and talk? You are shaken up, you are afraid because you are no weak grounds. You do not have a case to present. I’d advise you to take a break, and come back to work after a fortnight.” The shaky, shivering guy left and the Boss smiled. … Continue reading Prize or Price?
After a long meeting that followed a longer day, Susan P. and I approach Mr. J.
He says that our program is “out of compliance.” He won’t say how he knows, just that I should know. I check my anger multiple times as he double-talks—and insults—me.
After the meeting, I carry that checked anger home. Hold it through the night.
And bring it into the next day.

With the Impeachment hearings going full throttle, it seems everyone parrots an opinion. It once again brings to mind a poem I wrote during the last election campaign. As the political circus plays out on TV, nothing is ever as it seems. Our representative share with us on a need to know basis, and the news media shares on an everything you don’t want to know and more basis. I will be glad when this reality TV “Survivor” show runs its course, and congressional parrots go back in their cage to work at getting things done for the American people.
