broken lies my resolve to walk straight dressed in burden of expectations they still sit heavy on my being threatening to smother last-ditch efforts to retain individuality https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2020/03/03/photo-challenge-305/
I enjoyed the lull before the storm, but it’s over now. Fanaticism prevails. I’m as secular and liberal as I’ve always been, but the terms are now used in an abusive manner. I grew up in a Hindu household, with Muslim and Christian neighbours (two childless couples who treated me as a daughter), and we … Continue reading Martian

“…too young to notice
how fear persists, and how
the anger that causes fear persists…”
– Immortality, by Lisel Mueller
Purposeful, this fortress
permanently ungrounded
Burdened without bearing
fear underlying motivation
Reassured that life is unfair
dedicated to defying limits
Challenged by rage
bloodline ingrained
Pulled towards inevitable
complete collapse.

Sadje’s take on Exploration Challenge #124
Reenais the host of Reena’s Exploration Challenge.

who don’t even rub their eyes.
The cook’s right hand, lifted
an exact century ago,
completes its downward arc
to the kitchen boy’s left ear;
the boy’s tensed vocal cords
finally let go
the trapped, enduring whimper,
and the fly, arrested mid-plunge

Raat purani …by hecblogger

I came this far and then no more handcuffed gestures mourn shackled feet parched lips, thirsty near the shore I came this far and then no more It took years to get past the lure struggling mind and heart to meet I came this far and then no more handcuffed gestures mourn shackled feet https://dversepoets.com/2020/02/27/almost-a-triolet/

fear-mongering from infancy
forcing acceptable behaviors
through mental scars
morals etched in deep
with vivid stories
petrifying children into submission
the fairy tales last forever
in the minds
of impressionable children
the morals passed on
lurid and shocking
mean to stifle and suppress
the stories
a warning
of unacceptability
it’s a wonder how we managed to grow up at all
