The devil appeared in the form of Mrs. McKenzie, at least that’s how it appeared to Father Lassiter, as he eyed the goodies on show, and felt his appetite quicken.

“Mrs. McKenzie, may I remind you that we are in the Advent Season, and this should be a time of fasting as we await the birth of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Mrs. McKenzie, as plump and round and as sweet inside as her mince pies, replied ” Save the fasting for Lent, Father, Advent is a time of rejoicing for the babe to be reborn in us all. I will not contemplate the suffering of Christ at Advent, for this is not a season of suffering but joyfulness.”

Mrs. McKenzie had worked as a cook and housekeeper for thirty years, caring for four Carmelite Religious, who in turn cared for…

It is reasonable to say, in the UK our political system is a bit crazy at the moment. We have had two prime ministers in two months. On the second attempt Boris decided he was going to try again.

In truth we need an election, for the politicians to understand what we need to be done. We know the economy is in a crisis, and something needs to be done. However, rehashing old policies, isn’t the way.

There are many people on the poverty line, who are relying on food banks to eat. Most of the time they are working, but on low-income wages. It isn’t right. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, there will be many people who cannot afford to put the heating on or find money for shopping. On top of that, their children…

Remembering You

old age should have made you said your last goodbye
instead a sudden intense heart break took your life away.

old age should have made you lose taste of a bright life and memory
instead a sudden intense heart break took your great enthusiam and energy.

remembering you leaving without notice at your prime
left me devastated and broken years and years even to this time.

old age should be the only reasonable way for you to go
instead a sudden intense heart break took your life away.

i’m sorry i should have been beside you that day
remembering you is my only way to make you stay.

i only have the memory of you, Dad.

Chunnel

“What the hell is water?” asks the callow fish. She’s a thalassic creature. Someone’s curious about undiscovered, underwater worlds. They write stories of demons that inhabit the space. There's someone else who can make a train run under water in a chunnel.  It’s just knowing what to do with water. Weekend Writing Prompt

Relive those sweet moments
that caress your memories
playing hide and seek

Recall the voice of words

Renew ….by Elizabeth

Elizabeth's avatarTea & Paper

Today, I woke up and I wanted to write, do you know the urge to put down words on paper?

My thoughts were: could I start over again and remove all the weight of the past from my shoulders and walk through the sun? I didn’t want to sit and write in my journal as if it was a secret, but I wanted to write for the world, to let my feelings fly away.

RENEW who we are! Is it possible without erasing the past?

The past, mainly the mistakes, always knocks on the door of the present. I can feel a lightness after a yoga session, a few minutes of meditation, or a lovely vacation. I say: I’m ready for changes, to start over. But without any notice, those thoughts came back and put me down, like nothing has changed, I am the same as always.

Before you start…

Re-do or re- capture and re-direct

Re-do and recapture or redirect ….by Sadje

Sadje's avatarKeep it alive

This is perhaps the shortest word prompt we have done on RXC, yet it encompasses so much.

The prompt is

Any word starting with Re

➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰➰

Many of us want the option to re-do things in life

All the mess-ups needed to be corrected and put right

And when the option, naturally, is not available to anyone

We live lives in regret thinking of what if and only if

But I have a different option for all those people

Why not seize that moment of failure in your mind

And think back on how to re-capture that possibility in life

Maybe learn from the mistakes in the past and go forward

Do better, take a different course, and re-direct your steps

We live life one day at a time so that we can learn from yesterday

And do things differently today and tomorrow!
