Anathema

Did I say I don’t like you? No. I’ve always shown respect. The fake clipped accent, ostentatious style statements, streaks of manipulation in your smile, fabricated warmth, mocking voice and oh, the depth of lies in your shifty eyes is all anathema to me. I show respect which is not your due.

The next meal

The neon glow enveloped the city built by and for corporations. The emaciated figure on the sidewalk crouched under the bench. He was one amongst the hundred workers retrenched, because a MNC had taken over the company. He heard the news blaring on TV, from open windows. A businessman who had escaped the country after … Continue reading The next meal

Cata doxa

Bozo growled and Kitty mewed loud in protest, when I said it was raining cats and dogs outside. They were safe and cosy in their beds, and ready to sleep. “Mom, please do your research before you speak. I don’t like my babies being upset.” “Will you do that for me?” “Yes. The word is … Continue reading Cata doxa

Damned

There was a celebration in the deep, dark woods – their Master, the Devil had taken birth in the human world. His first masterful act was to kill his mother – she died during childbirth. His father, in a state of shock, refused to see the child, and uttered the words – “Oh, May he … Continue reading Damned

Time Traveller

“I’m very excited to be interviewing a time traveller. It is a first for me and the channel. Tell us, Mr. Jeevan, what did you see on your journey to different eras in time?” “Quite a lot, but I was disappointed when I tried to connect the dots between different eras. Life is not static. … Continue reading Time Traveller

Going back home

suffocated breaths on busy roads laden with history -manipulative voices steeped in the art of politics Honesty is an exception here….   I sigh with relief as I hear -finally the time has come to go back home Delhi was never mine….   soothing monsoon straightforwardness -a familiar tongue of Mumbai pulls me back to … Continue reading Going back home

Hidden science

This reminds me of the Stoddard Temple which the protagonist Howard Roark builds in Ayn Rand’s novel “Fountainhead”, and gets sued for. The argument centers around structures being built to make human beings feel dwarfed or elevated. I agree with the protagonist’s view on ‘feeling elevated’, and ‘able to rise or soar high’. Then, I … Continue reading Hidden science

Escapism

“Individualism is a form of escapism, if you refuse to take responsibility for another’s life and expect them to manage their own.” “But are others not happy with their freedom?” “Maybe, they need help. Can we dissociate ourselves from a collective human responsibility?” “No. But you need to differentiate exchange from charity, and authoritarianism from … Continue reading Escapism

Genie

“Is there a story surrounding this structure?” “Yes. A genie appears whenever thunder strikes the structure, and unleashes destruction on the world.” The sky changed color. I saw lightning, and stretched out my hands to wring the guide’s neck. I wondered what was getting inside me. Or rather WHO? I guess destiny finds a medium … Continue reading Genie
