Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 8

week-8

There have been times when you knew confrontation was going to be tricky, tough and downright scary.

It’s happened in both my working and home life.

I think I ‘stuff up’ a lot with no intention of doing so, and when confronted by authority of my wrongdoing I feel intimidated as now I am on the defensive and have to justify my actions.

It’s that thought of having to justify why you behaved in a certain way that causes us so much angst.

I know I have spent many a sleepless night worrying over a work place action that has required me to front the Principal the next day, when I did things which in hindsight reflected my lazy attitude to procedure.

But you can’t change what you have done, and so for me, it became a matter of let’s get this over and done with. Theirs is only so…

Take any one belief of yours that has ruled your life, and examine it from the following aspects.

  1 Is it true?

2 Can you absolutely know that it’s true?

3 How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?

4 Who would you be without that thought?

SERVICE BEFORE SELF

By Neel Anil Panicker

“Dear friends and colleagues,

I welcome you all to the Annual Board Meeting cum Party of Coaching Time.

Like last year and the previous three years before that, this year too Coaching Time has emerged as the number one coaching institute in the whole of Delhi region. But unlike previous years’ successes this year’s results have been slightly different. Well, before naysayers think otherwise, this year the results have been phenomenal as for the first time in the 25 years since this organization was founded, the Delhi region has outbeaten all other…

Find Your Philosophy & You Find Your Writers Voice

Sacha Black's avatarSacha Black

VoiceI’m grappling. Not the fun, half-naked, sweat soaked, rough and tumble kind of grapple. The unwillingly blindfolded, crashing into table corners while searching for something as immutably difficult to find as the holy grail.
My writers ‘voice’.
I know. Collective sigh. Honestly I’ve lost count of the number of posts, quotes and motivational spiels I’ve read on finding your writers voice.
And did any of them help? Nope. But not because they weren’t right, or helpful. But because I was the blind leading the blind in a one-legged donkey race for Quills R’ Us. I didn’t know what I was looking for.  In fact, I hadn’t found so much as a single proverbial needle from an entire field of haystacks.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 7 – Thought that becomes a belief

ladyleemanila's avatarLadyleemanila

challenge-7exploration-challenge-7

Everything that we do comes back to us
Good or bad, in other ways will come back
There’s always a consequence that’s a plus
Sometimes we will be given what we lack

I’ve always believed this and all
And when you call, I will be there
I’ll do well without expecting
For what it brings, it’s fine

I’m my worst when I don’t believe
I could deceive you if you whine
I might not be fair and square
And if you care, I’d shine

I think this is true for there is karma
There is Buddha, God and other deities
Among all these, we follow their dogma
If there’s contra, there’s a bit of squeeze

So let’s try to be good without a fuss
On this basis, we’re ready for feedback
As we snack, happy that it’s scrumptious
With awareness, we can improve feedback*

This is a response from my own experience and in doing so an attempt at answering the above questions.

I think our beliefs are things that we acquire as we age. When I was a child I dreamed of being a test cricketer, of diving fast cars and becoming a priest.

With age comes maturity and at a certain age, for me in my later teenage years I faced questions about what I was and where I was going.

It comes as a shock to discover you are not going to be the great sportsman you thought you might be.
