The following is an edited version of a poem I wrote in the 90’s while battling severe depression and anorexia nervosa which is about control. I thought I was in control but, almost too late, realized the demon was controlling me.  To sort through my confusion I wrote poetry as a means of journaling. Happily, this is no longer my reality, but at the time…

Genre: Adverse Verse

VICIOUS CYCLE

Knotted cords surround my thoughts

Like twine that binds a package;

Profusion of convolution, confusion

No solution

Seeking resolution, absolution.

The Eve of Eves

Let’s take inventory of what’s perceived

Reflect on the substance of what’s believed

Whether in the now or preconceived

Those that grieve deserve a reprieve

Yearn for experiences that undeceive

Resolve the woes of the weak and naive

Create joyful endings to tales we weave

We can’t achieve what we don’t believe

There’s a lot to be said for makebelieve

Peace and light on this most wondrous of eves

Challenge 17

  1. Past – My resume line

Professional journalist with a particular fascination for ferreting out and writing about the dirty underbelly of life.

Gaps

Journalism was a career I stumbled into, more a lazy indulgence that slowly turned into something deeper.

It served as an enabler, a force multiplier in terms of helping me first identify my true self through a very vigorous though painful process of trial and errors.

  1. Present

I am an author, a passionate writer and avid blogger besides a Communicator__ of ideas, thoughts, and skill sets.
Coach, career counsellor, trainer and writer.

The fields that I work in are chosen fields, closer to my core. Yet, it is a fluid state, as I need to zero down on one or maximum two options that will rule the course of my remaining life. I am yet evolving.

  1. Future

I plan to be a…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 18

Michael's avatarMorpethroad

challenge-18

There was never a defining moment apart from the feeling that it was the end and that things had to change.

Like so much in life it was easier to think it than do it.

To leave a marriage after so many years when you truly thought the vows you took were sacred was not and never would be simple.

But when you saw the destruction that was happening not only to yourself but to your children the decision was a lot more manageable than you imagined.

To do so was to give up the person I was before, the cowering, compliant and pathetic self who had grown to hate life and whose day to day was all about fear. Fear of discovery, fear of retribution and fear of punishment on self and those who looked up to me.

I had to move away and become strong. I had to…

Was he bearing the picture or being birthed by it?
All he could do was wait to see whether he was absorbed into the image or if life pulsated from it into his body.
Everything has a beginning, middle and end, though sometimes the order gets confused.
The next few minutes would be vital.

The Snow Globe Connection

Ervin looked outside at the baking heat of Los Angeles in Southern California. “I don’t like this,” he said. “This is earthquake weather.”

“Oh that’s just a myth,” said his wife, Deidre. “Weather can’t cause earthquakes.”

“Lived here all my life,” rebutted Ervin. “Earthquakes always happen after heat like this.”

“Daddy,” said their daughter, Crystal. “I can make those nasty earthquakes go away.”

“How?”

She returned moments later with her snowman snow globe. “See? I just shake it real good and the snow falls. It can’t be hot if the snow is falling.”

Ervin smiled wanly. “Doesn’t that just cause an earthquake for the snowman?”

Theories about the so-called Multiverse are still new and still developing. What Humanity would learn hundreds of years later is there are trillions of universes, some astonishingly similar to ours. All them of them are connected via mathematical constructs within hyperspace…
