Reenas Exploration Challenge

We are coming back to the use of metaphor to describe a concept or life, this week. John Elton’s “A Candle in the Wind” has been immortalized for posterity.

There is another interesting poem by William Blake, where he philosophizes on life, on seeing a fly.

Have you ever been inspired to think of a life, while viewing a mountain, river, animal, bird, insect, plant or any other element of nature? Pen down your thoughts in whatever manner they occur to you. Let it all flow … there need not be a conclusion, as a flow depicts the spirit more than anything else.

The format can be a story/poem/rant/ reflections as usual.

We all know there is a circle to life. The Lion King points this out in great clarity. What we don’t always realize, or think about, is how not only is there a circle to life…

Unreal

I realized only now what a boring person I have become. I checked up Wiktionary for words ending with -gasm, only to leave the site uninspired. The picture of gooey chocolate on the prompt did send an anticipation of pleasure to my mind. If there was a word to describe love for good clothes and … Continue reading Unreal

Life Always Wins

Vivian Zems's avatarSmell The Coffee

Life smirks with a cruel twist of crimson lips

she smiles sometimes but keeps secret her tips

every so often she gives you a kick

and loves to dare you to lay down your chips

How can it be that when I look at her

she shows me nothing but a hazy blur

How can it be when I gaze in her face

she shrugs and threatens to just disappear?

I don’t trust life, so write my own story

If you ask, I’ll say all’s hunky dory

I’ll fight until I can’t fight anymore

and only go down in blazing glory

On learning myself

Jane Dougherty's avatarJane Dougherty Writes

For the dverse prompt, a couple of stanzas in the style of the Rubaiyat.

What did I dream before the words took hold

Before the sun, the moon, the stars grew old?

I squandered time, knew little of its worth,

Beneath soft nights of silver, days of gold.

The hand, the heart that guide the words to birth

Have grown in strength, an oak tree’s mighty girth,

Your face before me lighting day and night,

I learn to write the beauty of our earth.

life’s a blank piece of paper
on which we write a story.
was delighted – I, the author
life’s a blank piece of paper!
but time’s a strange editor
turned my fairy tale gory
life’s a blank piece of paper
on which we write a story?

Rain Down A Window

Elizabeth's avatarBronx Beyond Borders

E.R.Smith, 2018

Raining steady.

Waiting in donut shop, watching train staircase.

Focused gaze peers through window.

Hoping for a glimpse, but you’re off schedule.

Dark haired siren startles me, resembled you.

Donut shop crowded, rain coming hard.

A couple coming down stairs, looks like us.

Window blurs,  I retreat into mind.

Love  ways we loved, deep,  long,  sweaty.

Hate ways  we fought, deep, long,  vicious.

Want to apologize,  go back, retrace, erase.

Thunder slaps awake, realize it’s too late.

Lighting strikes, clears, I see you with him.

Know why you rescheduled.

There are no time machines.

There is only me, a rainy window,

what could have been.
