We All Live In A

We all live in a … By Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

I thought that it would be nice to be on a yellow submarine where all my friends are and where Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts’ Club Band is playing.  The sounds of bubbles, water, and other noises can be heard as we pear out of the windows.  Most of the ordinary submarines don’t have windows for its occupants to look out and watch the undersea life, but this one was specifically built to party in.  People dance and everyone is extremely friendly with one another.  Look over there, I can see Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, as the sub flies out of the water.  That looks like one of those Blue Meanies wearing that navy blue woolly coat, those nasty creatures who hate music, now we have a mission to save Pepperland from them.

Those Meanies are known to eat the toys of young children and they fire their guns and…

Flash Fiction: Crossover

thedarknetizen explores different dimensions of war and victory in this hilarious piece …

the dark netizen's avatarThe Dark Netizen

You end up paying the price for your behaviour.

Ask me. I know only too well. All my life, I lived like a selfish savage. I never cared for any other person. I took what I wanted and lived my life to the fullest. Then it all ended. I paid the price for my exploits and I was sent to Hell. Then the war broke out. The forces of Heaven and Hell joined forces against a common foe. And we won. Strangely, I learnt the values of life in my afterlife, during a war. And yet again, I paid the price for my exploits. However, it was more of a reward this time.

I was allowed to crossover into heaven…

Tuesday Poetics: : Literary Alchemy with Laurie Lee

Laura Bloomsbury challenges us to match styles with Laurie Lee…

Laura Bloomsbury's avatardVerse

I’m a sucker for synchronicity and having chosen to focus on this particular poet, a timely connection with his birthdate (26.6.1914) and today’s Poetics challenge became apparent.

As with most of my favourite naturalist poets, Laurie Lee employed description with the light touch of lyricism, devoid of complex structures or the aggrandisement of the Romantics. In fact in answer to his critic Roy Fuller, his riposte was: ‘You dare me to be more complicated, but I dare to achieve simplicity’.

And he succeeds too – take for example his Christmas Landscape:
“There is hunger in the mouth
Of vole and badger,
Silver agonies of breath
In the nostril of the fox,
Ice on the rabbit’s paw”

True, Lee was a Neo-Romantic willing at times to sacrifice meaning for the mellifluous (though not to the extent that Dylan Thomas does). After all, he was musician too and hence…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #92 – The Crossover

The Crossover — a piece that will keep you hooked — by Michael

rec-92

When the moment of crossover occurred, it came as a bit of a shock.

He expected the lights of the palliative care ward to fade into darkness and all cognizance of life disappear. He would become nothing as he believed there was nothing to go to.

So as the lights around him faded and he slipped away from human life, it came as a surprise when another light took its place.

His first thought was its just happening in my head, my brain is trying to stay in the world and fooling me into thinking I am still there.

Then he realized he didn’t have a brain as such so wondered what it was that was happening to him.

It wasn’t as if he wanted to live forever nor did he have any definite quarrel with death, after all in his final months, life had been crap, confined to a…

Explore crossovers with Jade Li 🙂

For crossover, there are only a couple of things I can think of (aside from the concept of crossing over from life to death.) One is a crossover brassier, where the fabric crosses over and serves to lift and separate to give support. Image result for benefits of crossover bra

The other is when tying boats up to a dock there is a crossover knotting that holds the boat secure but is easily undone.

Oh wait, I just thought of one other thing with the crossover, and that is with counted cross stitch. When the “x” is made, to give the best effect you always cross them in the same order. When I do my cross-stitch, I always start in the bottom left corner and go to the upper right corner for as many stiches in that row, then return with the bottom right corner to the upper left corner.

A beautiful take by Sadje on Exploration Challenge #92

Sadje's avatarKeep it alive

Yeah, it’s true

I crossed over to the other side

I am no longer the victim

No longer the oppressed

I am now the avenger

I have changed sides

I will not be afraid of you

Or the thought of what you can do

Gone are the days when I would cower

No I stand tall with the force of truth behind me

Yeah, you heard me correctly

I have changed sides now

I Saw The Light

I Saw the Light …. by Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

My whole life flashed before my eyes and I knew that I was going to make my crossover into the Great Beyond.  Death is a mystery and it can be terrifying, but I saw the bright white light and I was ready to meet my maker.  I realized that I was dead and I wondered if anything would ever resemble reality any more.  Should I follow the light and enter the tunnel, and would this lead me to an alternate universe?  Blood was gushing out of me in the operating room, but all I felt was a peaceful glow.  I heard the doctor say, “I have tried everything I am ready to call the code. Does anybody else have anything else. Okay then, Code called at 6:19.”   That was when I crossed over.

Written for Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 92 prompt crossover.
