Pregnant Pause ..... by Deepa
Beyond Cloud Nine #poetry
Photo prompt: what do you see?

What happens when we surpass our goals
and transcend the euphoria of touching the sky
when we take that leap of faith
onto the fabled cloud ten
obscured and outshined by the lesser nine
but always there, sacred or profane
a step from greatness to legend
no more sky, no more blue
.
But to reach so far is to be alone
when stars and moon are all you see
gentle lights, minute on a backdrop of envy
You dare not look below, for the plummet down cannot be survived,
To fall is to end.
so you look above, held by charges of lightning from your ascent
And like the tree you are, you grow some more
to find a foothold on the moon in reach
Alas, even that moon is not safe from envy
a crescent of light is all you…

Was That Really Me?
“Was that really me?”… by VJ Knutson
Was that really me,
signed his life away
fresh-faced, innocent
marched North
then sailed East
to unknown seas?
Fuelled by anticipation,
anchored by camaraderie,
that boy who crawled
through jungle deep
weathered Burma heat
and nightmarish infestations,
adrenaline pumping
infiltrated enemy lines
unarmed, feckless
nursed fears with booze
adopted false bravado.
Was that really me,
that man who emerged
hard-edged, battle-weary,
whose medals of bravery,
buried now, speak more
of loss, and horror
than triumph –
And who is this,
whose rage intimidates
with trigger-sharp precision,
who ravages all that is dear
ideals slaughtered,
hopes destroyed,
whose enemy
now dwells within?
(Today is Remembrance Day. Spurred by the prompts of Reena’s Exploration Challenge – “Was that really me?” and Ragtag Community’s “bravery“, I have tried to put myself in my father’s shoes. He fought for the British Commandos during WWII, and in hindsight, suffered PTSD.)
Jim’s response to 10 phrases
On Reena's Exploration Challenge this week, Jim took the trouble to write two pieces, weaving in the prompt words. The result is not just creative, but informative as well. Here are the links to the two articles - https://jimadamsauthordotcom.wordpress.com/2019/11/08/reenas-phrases/ https://jimadamsauthordotcom.wordpress.com/2019/11/09/reenas-phrases-part-two/ Go ahead and enjoy ... Amongst the glow
of a pre-risen Sun
pockets of stillness
can be found for a
soul to rest and be
nourished in contentment
to eschew and intercept the
potential of emptiness.

~*~
Making cynical assertions never helps to resolve a conflict
There are pockets of stillness, perhaps a pregnant pause
Keep your crumbling thoughts together, find the lost alphabet
Fight the potential of emptiness and the free-flowing bonds
Before you question your maps study the undulating patterns
The answers are always there, right in front of our faces we just
Need to overcome the impulse to score a hit, curb the desire for
Oneupmanship, whichmight give us a temporary high but leaves
Us wondering was…

Lost & found
Lost-found …. by Aishwarya
Pockets of stillness,
When aura parts his body,
While she,
Questions her maps, wondering what would her future hold,
Some plausible explanation, many a cynical assertions,
Here I am, without him,
Like a lost alphabet,
Waiting for any promising sign, some comfort,
As light fades, crumbing thoughts her only companion,
Was that really me? That, who was annoyed with his child-like pranks,
Who would I look forward to,
Now that familiarity has crossed the shore and,
Only undulating patterns remain.
That happiness, free flowing bonds,
Would I get to experience again?
Moments of uncertainty, a pregnant pause,
While she looks around,
Only potential emptiness gnaws at her,
From nowhere,
A shimmer of light beckons,
A tiny, firm, unmistakeable hand clings on,
While their creation, demands her care and protection,
That ray of light,
Ensures,
His legacy continues.

Reenas Exploration Challenge #112
Reena provides a list of phrases. I chose the first one:

***
There are too many pockets of stillness”
I prefer surrounding sounds of family, children’s laughter, teenage pranks, whispered secrets followed by giggles, or the snore of tired elders.
This familiar music provides a wellness–togetherness that I have a need to hear, interrupting silence.
