Reena’s Exploration Challenge #113 – Grandad’s Glasses

Grandad’s glasses hold a lesson for us all, while bringing back memories of similar episodes. Over to Michael…..

Grandad was agitated.

He was pacing back and forwards, from one room to another. The whole time he was muttering to himself, “I’m sure I had them this morning. Now they have to be here.”

When we inquired as to what it was, he was looking for he exploded: “My glasses, I had them this morning, and now they’ve disappeared. Have you kids been hiding them again?”

Collectively we protested our innocence and began looking ourselves.

Pretty soon there was a major search on. Questions were asked: “where do you remember wearing them?” “What colour is the frame?” “Do you have a spare pair?”

The questions only infuriated him more. “I’ve got one pair, and without them, I’m as blind as a bat.”

We looked everywhere, the kitchen, the bathroom, his bedroom and no glasses could be found.

Feeling down about the whole business, we sat and pondered what to…

Poetry readathon

Today, I am delighted to welcome poet and blogger, Lorraine Lewis to Robbie’s inspiration. Lorraine blogs at https://blindwilderness.wordpress.com/ and shares some lovely and moving poetry.

A poem for my father

Through the mullioned windows I saw the sheep,

Illuminated by the sun,

As I gazed at them my spirit danced,

Then they disappeared behind the hill,

Now, again, all seemed dark,

I waited, hoping that they would come back.

To my delight they soon came back,

Huge was this flock of sheep,

When they returned it was no longer dark,

Again I could see the sun,

But they went again, behind the hill,

So I got on my feet and danced.

I remembered another dark day when I’d danced,

Though I knew he was not coming back,

With him I climbed that enormous hill,

Rugged, just as it was for the sheep,

I longed for him to see the…

~A SIMPLE GESTURE~

A simple gesture

Of familiarity

Uncomplicated

Free of reason

An acknowledgement

of friendship

A simple gesture.

Broken Shell

Broken shell …. by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

Cocooned, I am
enclosed, secure
shut down

Ignore initial
stirring –
like a skipped
heartbeat

Convinced
this retreat
is cemented

Have had enough
life too harsh
soul too sensitive

and yet, there it is
again – gathering
momentum uninvited

sensations, emotions
morphing into words
commanding expression

growing wings,
battering my barriers
flocking towards light

poems emerge
and I am stripped naked
exposed once again.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #113

As I stare into nothingness,

Vibrant images I see,

Of a happy, confident, self – assured being,

From nowhere,

Tantalising into their folds,

Fear, insecurity, negativity,

Creeping through the shadows,

Beckon the ray of light I hold,

When least expected.

The microscopic anatomy I do,

Of life lived, or yet to be lived,

Things unexplored energise the very life,

Eyeing from yonder, a seemingly harmless hint of self doubt,

Fluttering its wings,

Manifesting itself into a giant shark,

Ready to gobble up the very being,

In no time.

The early morning rays of sun,

Igniting hopes,

Luring to fulfil the unrealised dreams,

While from somewhere,

Chilly winds, wearing a black cloak,

Engulfing from behind, sending shivers down the spine,

Forcing to be awake at night,

In hope of better times.

So you see,

It doesn’t matter the number of days you’ve…

Fleeting Memories ~ ekphrastic poem

Fleeting memories ….. by rivrlogr

Fleeting Memories

Tiny currents brush the edges of my mind.
Random details, trivial and not-so
minor, flutter, teasing my thoughts.
Never clear in their intent. Prodding me
to remember, or struggling
to break the tethers imposed
by those details, always out of reach?

This is my response to Reena’s Exploration Challenge #113,
which offers a variety of images for inspiration.

Longing

Longing …. by Elizabeth

Elizabeth's avatarTea & Paper

Reena’s Exploration Challenge prompt this week is a photo, a mean, few photos to chose from, I picked this one:

Here is my entry:

Longing
Not sure for what
Maybe a place, a time, space
between dreams and instincts
Transforming
Flying far from the being
only to be
the truth, the passion
Grounded and free
The imagination opens to the impossible
Thoughts closing up
Reason and intuition
Fighting, begging their moment
Each one is a battle
The skin and the suffer
Giving room to the pleasure
A mission accomplished
A promise was forgotten

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #113- Chasing Butterflies

Chasing butterflies …. by Indira

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #113

Ah, those famous men!

imagine balancing
status and egos in one hand
butterfly net in another
eyes full of childlike gleam
heart full of passion
exotic butterflies
flying around
as if teasing them
to follow
deliriously their dream
their jobs they forgot
cared not for critics
as this was their vocation
did they feel guilty
trapping butterflies
pinning them alive
and preserve for
just gratification
——————————————-
chasing Butterflies
understandable, if
for appreciating the skill of the creator, or
collecting for scientific reasons
for biodiversity
and conservation
otherwise
chase as sport
admire their beauty
but let them fly freely around
making the world beautiful
with their
stunning beauty
