Multiple faces …. by Aishwarya

Multiple faces,

To a single person, it traces,

Depending on the person,

Depending on the reason,

Depending on the situation,

Depending on the person’s position,

For a long time it may stay hibernated,

Or impromptu it may be liberated,

Sometimes, all it needs is a provocation,

Or sometimes, it could be a lifelong suppression,

Multiple faces,

In numerous places,

We have all graced,

Without much haste,

Irrespective of the emotion we face,

That which is appropriate we brace,

Upto a point,

Where these numerous faces and real- self join,

No longer can we distinguish,

The reality blurs and gradually extinguish,

Only that which remains is failure to recognise self,

Convincing oneself,

I am, what I show,

In false pride we ultimately glow.

Multiple faces,

Which we never thought existed, springs in surprising occasions and places,

Unaware of its little traces,

We carry it along…

Underestimated

Underestimated …. by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

Novice, a word that negates
experience, knowledge, merit –
capability under suspicion.

I novice myself frequently,
as if vulnerability is a sideline
and humility commands denigration.

A tired and weary state –
yes, this is me, new and willing
to learn, but I am not novice.

So before you judge, adjust
your professional spectacles,
snub my potential, hear this:

Value is immeasurable –
unique contributions
enhance collective offerings.

(Reena’s Exploration challenge this week is based on “The Story of An Hour” which challenges us to examine our life and limitations.  I dream over and over again that I have returned to teaching only to find that the years I have put in have been negated by my absence and I have to begin again.  Starting over is not a new theme in my life, but my attitude about is finally changing, as represented in the poem.  Image from personal collection.)

We, the heroes

We, the heroes ….. by Aishwarya

kittysverses's avatarKitty's Verses

Running away from,

A situation,

Giving up on,

Our dreams,

Dejected by a,

Setback,

Losing hope,

Over loved ones,

We would have done at some time or the other.

Looking up to somebody,

No doubt, would inspire,

But sometimes, the sheer magnitude,

Would make us doubt our own capabilities,

And leave us only with dejection,

Forgetting the long journey we have travelled,

Things we have accomplished.

It’s only when we realise,

We are the heroes,

Of our everyday life,

When we,

Battle against the odds,

Strengthen our dreams with hope and action,

Fight a tear and move on,

Turn back, only for the lessons,

And march forward with strength in self,

That a desired change, would come about.

My Inheritance

“My inheritance” ….by Susi Bocks

Susi Bocks's avatarI Write Her

mutti

A lifetime of difficulties landed hard.
Years of sadness, extremes, and bullshit highs.
Insecurities abounded and chaos prevailed.
Welcome to my world.

I was educated on “What will the people think?” stability.
Happy, healthy home – yeah, that was an illusion.
Inconsistent love led to inward rage,
me only always wanting to run away.

Her generation’s dysfunction and the ones before were handed down.
The family poison designed to slowly kill your mind over time.
But she never counted on me fighting hard for my sanity.
I wouldn’t accept this lame gift fraught with pain.

So I cut ties and let her go.
It helped to put up clearly marked boundaries.
I could finally breathe.
I rose above the insanity to find my peace.

Then she died.
The drama spanning generations ceased.
My inheritance was freedom.
Something she never experienced.

It took just a few moments to turn her life around

What was an existence of misery changed in moments

To something she hadn’t even dreamed to be possible

A fairy godmother and a prince charming arriving

Suddenly into her drab miserable life, in one short night,

Rewarding her with a princess’s crown for being good and kind

The story of Cinderella haunts the day-dreams of many a girl

Maybe one day…

Jeremy had grown up in a family of meat-eaters. Their belief was that a meal wasn’t a real meal unless it included meat. Jeremy questioned it no more than he questioned he put his socks on before putting his tennis shoes on every morning. That was until….

The day started out like any other. It was summer vacation and he was being shoo-ed outside by his mother. Back then – before personal computers and cell phones – kids played outside all day, maybe checking in now and then, and were back inside by the time the street lights came on. Jeremy’s best friend, Willy, was at summer camp, so Jeremy decided to ride his bike around. His usual boundaries, as set by his mother, were 5th, Smith, Poplar, and 8th Streets. Today Jeremy decided to go beyond and crossed 8th Street. He’d…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #115 – A Weight off His Shoulders

A weight off his shoulder …by Michael

Michael's avatarMorpethroad

The prompt is to write something that brought about a change in the life of a protagonist, family, community, nation or the world.

Through the numbness that went with the leaving there emerged a relief, a weight taken from his shoulders and it was several days after he had vacated his home leaving his wife, angry and her heart full of vengeance, his younger children dismayed, his older children understanding.

He had taken the step many thought he didn’t have the courage to do was surprising when it happened.

He didn’t care what anyone thought, for once he was doing something for himself and as much as it pained him to be leaving his children in the ‘lion’s den’, so to speak, he knew they would be ok. Despite her bluster, she wouldn’t do any of them harm, so he thought.

He walked to his new home that first…
