Smoke Screens and Mirrors

With the Impeachment hearings going full throttle, it seems everyone parrots  an opinion. It once again brings to mind a poem I wrote during the last election campaign. As the political circus plays out on TV, nothing is ever as it seems.  Our representative share with us on a need to know basis, and the news media shares on an everything you don’t want to know and more basis. I will be glad when this reality TV “Survivor” show runs its course, and congressional parrots go back in their cage to work at getting things done for the American people.

Politics
A circus of smoke and mirrors
Half-truths polished and shiny
Stretching every word out of context
Smoke screens of the insignificant
Always hiding reality
Behind a cover of lies
Showing only fragments
Promising pots of gold
At the end of the rainbow
False hope in a holey bucket

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #119 — Mysterious Mother and the rise and fall of humans and Earthweal Open Link Weekend #4

Mysterious Mother, and the rise and fall of humans… by Jade Li/Lisa

Lisa or Li's avatarTao-Talk

Goddess Mixed Media - Goddess Of Truth by Shannon Crandall

In the beginning, when Mysterious Mother was waving an arm as long as a spiral galaxy, creating all things that spring from her, she made a decision with humans. She had magnanimous love for all of her creations and made them with the skills to have them all playing well together until, at last, they returned to her. The humans presented a challenging case, as with them she decided to supercharge the thinking and feeling aspects of their nature, but at the same time they needed to remain in balance with the rest of her creations. In a way it was like the Mysterious Mother was an artist that was used to confining her work to a 2×3 canvas and then challenging herself to do a wall-sized mural. It was the first time she’d tried such a thing, so in a way humans were also an experiment.

She was tired…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge # 119

Reenais the host of Reena’s Exploration Challenge

PROMPT 119

Imagine two sides/perspectives/characters/mind-sets with the following names:

  1. Thinking Brain
  2. Feeling Brain

Write about how these two interact, clash, complement or supplement each other.

~*~

Thinking Brain

Logic

Practical

Reasonable

Pragmatic

Problem solver

Knowledgeable

Active and resourceful

~*~

Feeling Brain

Emotional

Reactive

Creator of drama

Storms in teacups

Out of control passion

Gut instincts

Love and beauty

Poetry and arts

~*~

A marriage made in heaven;

The two parts of my brain balance both sides of my personality.

The thinking brain keeps me at an even keel and helps to sort out the practicalities of life. And the feeling brain keeps me human. It can sometimes overwhelm me with emotions but without it, I will be just an automaton!

It’s a partnership that exists in balance in most people, but if we let one part overtake the control of our life…

How Does the Heart Choose?

How does the heart choose? by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

Set me on a lonely road
and I will shine –
solitude a strength

And yet, I have an inner pull,
a need for connection,
a longing for depths of love.

But what of these dreams –
do relationships deter direction,
and must I always wait on another?

Intimacy is complicated,
the route undefined,
I am chilled, fatigued

How does the heart decide
when love challenges
arrogance, and fear takes hold?

Is This Still Me?

is this still me? …. by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

Was that really me
fought for feminine rights,
eleven-years-old
persistent to the win?

And was that me
lied about her age
strapped on work clothes
bore responsibility?

And did you know her
that obstinate teen
who defied tradition
and chased an education?

Where did she go,
a faint memory now,
how life tamed her,
taught her subservience

to bury her light
in the shadow of men’s
dreams, that toil should be
selfless, and love for other.

Listen, and you will hear
her echo, faint but growing,
the sound of a mind burning,
the laughter of a soul on fire.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge # 118 – Options

Options .. by Sadje

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

Reenais the host of Reena’s Exploration Challenge.

Here’s our prompt for this week…

PROMPT 118

This is a free-flow format of no rules and a space for exploration.

~*~

From the moment we are born, we are offered options in life. To a baby, these may just be to cry or not to cry, but as we grow older, the scope of the choices widens.

And when we become adults, there are serious choices to be made; career, place of residence, life partner, etc. it gets harder and harder because the options keep on multiplying. It’s like trying to find our way on a map where there are arrows pointing every which way!

How do we decide?

Do we blindly pick a path and follow it, or we make an educated guess?

Do we leave it to fate to guide our feet to the right path! All difficult questions…

Call to Order

Call to order …. by rivrvlogr

Ken Gierke / rivrvlogr's avatarrivrvlogr

Call to Order

Neither here nor there,
this place we find ourselves.

All direction lost,
we wander within boundaries

imposed, yet never observed,
the chaos of partisan politics

the true indicator
of our own limitations.

This is my response to Reena’s Exploration Challenge #118.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #118 — One way?

One way … by Jade Li/Lisa

Lisa or Li's avatarTao-Talk

Mainstream arrows all point the same
Consume, borrow, compete, obey
When thoughts ping pong another way
With pills, snorts, sips – “if” fades away

It’s chancy if you choose to play
Mind wanders, careful what you say
Land of the free – til you resist
Drowning waves come, you get my gist?

Get your message out, some will agree
Plant your acorns, some sprouting trees
Dig your own way, stories, art, poems
Warm truth lights. See? We’re not alone!

Reena Saxena is the host of Reena’s Exploration Challenge.  Reena says:
This is a free-flow format of no rules, and a space for exploration.  Choose your best mode of expression, and give vent to whatever you need to let out.

Today’s offering is a quatrain form poem.
