again, no water!

lips parched and dry

longing to sup dew from

a single leaf clinging to life

before its last disconnect.

concerned for her children,

she harangued customer service,

her rant lapsed on the weary.

come morning, the skies awakened

in fairytale fashion, cascading tears

from unwritten poems.

Well Water

Well Water ….. by Jim Adams

newepicauthor's avatarA Unique Title For Me

A breakdown in domestic water supply caused the town leaders to consider new alternatives and they made an appointment to talk with the well water sales engineer today.  When Mr. Jones arrived, they asked him what type of guarantee they would get for their money, if they decided to invest in this well water system technology.  Mr. Jones said that he would need a retainer to do a study and depending on what information came from that, then he could give them an estimate.  Mr. Jones told them, “Since you can’t see ground water, we have hydrologists on staff that utilize scientific methods to find water, but this can be a crap shoot and sometimes your neighbor may have water and you won’t.  We will have some test holes drilled and check our records that we have acquired for all the holes that were drilled in this area and that…

The crows

The crows ….. by Aishwarya

kittysverses's avatarKitty's Verses

The crows cawed cawed a curse,

The busy people never knew,

Noisily amongst their kin they carried,

Secret keeping they didn’t do.

Beyond the dragons of ire,

Where seething flames spit unhindered through darkness and light,

Beyond the mountains of desire,

Where unsurmountable peaks brushed against canvas of sky,

Did they stop to quench their thirst from teeming rivers of plentitude?

Did they stop to admire the valleys of unwilting blooms ?

What transpired between then and now,

The busy people never knew,

The crows cawed cawed a curse,

Putting all to slumber,

Sleeping beauty like I not know?

Shrouded in minds of obscurity,

Lying thicketed in clouds of uncertainty.

The crows cawed cawed a curse,

Putting all to slumber,

Sleeping beauty like I not know?

Only to wake up,

21 years into the 21st century,

And to find,

People scared of people,

The crows cawed cawed a curse,

And…

WTF, WFH!

WTF-WFH …. by Punam

paeansunplugged's avatarpaeansunpluggedblog

I am an unwelcome intruder in my own citadel
my diligently built fortress run over by night crawlers
a glare, a scowl, a stare
I slink back sheepishly to nowhere!

Bent busily over their machines, they go about their operations
making me feel utterly useless and unwanted as they finish their assignments
the day time squatters of my prime property
banish me from my own domain with alacrity!

No laundry, no dishes, no talking or sleeping
mute and invisible, hands on for trouble shooting
I am their safety valve but the roiling in my inner
like the pressure cooker on constant simmer!

My feelings crest and crash regularly
delight on a vacation, sleep is of late a foe
restlessness and angst come and go
I laugh, live and love despite the gnawing hollow!

The dark night of my soul has never been darker than now
there seems no heuristic approach

In 2021, I Woke Up

I woke up …… by VJ Knutson

VJ's avatarOne Woman's Quest

This year the plague came
and I blamed the wind
for carrying destruction
and I blamed the sun
for its ineptitude
and the rain,
no friend of mine,
only served to drown
my expectations.

Lockdown
and social distance
masks and antiseptics
how was a soul
to survive?

Pushing 2020
out the door
certain relief
would follow
but change is not
a date on the calendar
a release of circumstance

I turned inward
faced the gloom
and found a spark
forgave the weather
the virus, the news

In 2021, I woke up…

नया क्या है

hecblogger’s take in Exploration Challenge #167

hecblogger's avatarPlaying with words

another blow in the chest

Another blow in the chest ……. by Smita

Smita Ray's avatarUntitled Verse

I woke up in 2021…They talked about the year’s demise. The cadaverous yesteryear, perchance, is still lurking in the venomous, moth-eaten chronicles. Putrifying, wafting off an exceptional noisome smell. Once again the year begins with a pound in the chest, completely knocking you down. Standing at the cul-de-sac my eyes glazed over the sable night. Hopefully, it ends differently.

Beneath the graceful curve of the sky, where I tossed a handful of seeds, where blissful clumps of perennials pregnant with plump fruits with copious creepers bursting at the seam bestride the trees in the manner of a leafy colossus. They allure vociferous macaw and indigenous chirpy flinches with their tails dipped in cherry, preening themselves with absurd indifference. Here ladybugs and ants scurry along the callow shoots and burgeoning foliage like colonel blimp. The soft singsong of the leaves awakens a restful ache to lose yourself in the heartening…
