Nostalgia blurs the rough edges
bringing into sharp focus
only the pleasurable moments
making past a perfect browsing ground.

Avoiding a jab of reality
living in soft focus
often makes present palatable
in the present times.

Closing our eyes
masking our true selves
not living by our own rules
will our future be a photoshopped life!

What do you see # 66 – January 25 2021

No new writing today, so far at least.

No. Today has been filled with Voices. I have completed drafting my voices picture poetry book – Voices (In The Trash). It is similar to the Beechworth Bakery Bears in format – images with a poem they inspired, as a spread across 2 pages of an 8.5 x 8.5 inch book. Essentially, a Children’s Book format, though I don’t really consider myself a children’s writer.

This particular collection of conversations originated from a walk around a large Trash and Treasure Market in Daylesford, Victoria, a couple of years ago. I was fascinated by the life I saw and felt in the myriad objects that filled up a huge space. Everything I saw had a voice and demanded to be written.

So. Today I have finished (or nearly finished) my design work and have made all of my quality compromises to create a…

the great debate
a miracle or a poison

sparing more lives
or dooming future generations

we are fraught with anxiety
but it’s prescribed to allay fears

helping or hurting
time will let us know

thirsting for new worlds

dive headlong into adventure

on wings of hope

The answer to humanity’s problems

A lot of hope and fear rides on this one injection

If I call it an elixir of life, I won’t be wrong

The only trouble is that it has never been tested

Not on any living being, animal, or human

And till I am given permission to use it on live subjects

How can this greatest discovery be of any use

So I wait with hope and fear
