He took his great granddad’s watch from the drawer and looked at it one last time. He wore it on his wedding, a pocket silver watch from 1919, with a silver chain and a silver medal at the end. The medal was won by his great granddad from rugby and it still has the encryption of his name and the year. Ah, great legacy! When the son got married six years ago, he passed this silver watch to the son. There was a feeling of pride and loyalty when he saw his son wore it on his wedding.

Sing a song of praise for these men

Generously with love

Scribbled pages they left by then

Gaze up they sang above

Generously giving their lives

Remember their children and wives

Generously give

Legacy …by Cheryl

Legacy…to me this means something of value you give to your relatives or friends when you pass away. I really don’t have much to offer my family in this respect. This year when my granddaughter turned 16, I gave her my gold circle locket necklace that has my initials and birthdate on it which I received at a 16th birthday, 60 years ago. If that’s considered a legacy then so be it.

We have moved so much and I have two storage units but there’s rarely anything in there that I would consider to have enough value to give or leave to anyone.

When my mom died, I wanted something but really received nothing except a pair of earrings and it saddens me to see pics of my three sister’s homes with items I might wish to have had. But I lived two thousand miles away and that was…

Bequest

Bequest ….. By Diana Coombes

This week from https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2022/09/22/reenas-xploration-challenge-249/ is one word.

LEGACY

but we can use any of these or other synonyms

Benefaction, Bequeathal, Bequest, Bestowal, Birthright, Devise, Endowment, Gift, Heirloom, Heritage, Inheritance, Patrimony, Provision, Settlement, Hereditament

Sitting in the lawyer’s office a variety of relatives (distant and close), listens to the will of Sir Bernard Fotherington, who at the grand old age of eighty died in suspicious circumstances. A benefaction of his twenty-two-room mansion, or a painting of his favourite horse, perhaps a bestowal of an antique vase in the settlement.

There were never as many people in his life when he was alive, than in that room today. Provision is made for staff, especially his old butler. Thirty years faithful service, and he hoped for an endowment to allow him to retire. He didn’t want to work for Fotherington junior, his attention to his heritage, never allowed servants a say.

Legacy of the dearly departed

Legacy of the dearly departed ….by Sadje

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

A word prompt this week;

LEGACY

➰➰➰

Someone dear to us has passed away

We mourn their death with sorrow and sadness

What we feel, sometimes is not what we show to the world

For not all those who leave this world, leave good memories behind

Some people make the lives of those caring for them, hell

And their passing away is at time a blessed release

From a burden that was becoming too much to carry

We can become unfriendly and cranky with illness and age

But one thing that always should be remembered by us all

What sort of legacy are we leaving in the hearts and minds

Of those who cared for us day and night till the end

Perhaps these thoughts can make our attitude softer, more generous

And our words kinder and more understanding!

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #248- Excavating History

“Excavating History” …by Susan

Susan St.Pierre's avatarSillyfrog's Blog

We have a phrase this week to serve as your writing prompt.

…passing through a doorway in history

There is no restriction on format of the piece. There is no last date either, unless you wish to be featured in the Weekly Wrap.

Duncan’s head hurt.
His pursuit of truth is a hunger he knows can never be satisfied in a conclusion. He wonders, “Is the past truly a mosaic of endless opinions or is there more?”
To become an observer by passing through a doorway of history would give him more evidence but trusting his eyes and ears has limitations. The “who he is”- a being marinated in modern day culture and sensibilities- would be a tremendous disadvantage to an unbiased reenactment. He knows that the understanding of history is disserved by only studying collections of modern intellectual interpretations after the fact. It needs to be excavated for evidentiary
